Pap Smear Atypical
For a pap smear, atypical interpretations can be caused by vaginitis or venereal wart, but does not mean cancer.
Dysplasia is a term used when a specimen of cervical cells appear unusual under a microscope. Women with dysplasia may require getting a repeat test to see if the condition still exists. A diagnosis of dysplasia does not mean the woman will definitively progress to cancer.

When unusual cervical changes are detected, further evaluation is required for case management. In the case of lower grade results, physicians are confronted with prescribing appropriate treatment plans. Women are encouraged to seek annual routine examinations to promote the early detection and treatment of pre-cancer conditions associated with cervical disorders.
