Pap Test Result
If a patient has a positive pap test result, additional pap smear and a colposcopy exam are prescribed; cone biopsy removes abnormal cells for closer examination.
The number and degree of uncharacteristic cell changes identified determines the classification of the cytology reading. Cytology interpretation is a function of identifying the stages of abnormal cellular development with the cervix.

Regardless of which method used, HPV DNA testing can enhance the likelihood of detecting high-risk type HPV infections known to be associated with cervical cancer for early intervention and treatment.
