Ascus Pap Smear

An ASCUS pap smear may require a colposcopy to check for cervical cancer. It is not unusual for cases like this to be read as normal by a different doctor. For this reason, risky surgery should be avoided until a more definitive diagnosis can be obtained with either a repeat exam or a biopsy. An ASCUS pap smear may require a colposcopy to check for cervical cancer.

Ascus Pap Smear

  -

Colposcopy, Cervical Cancer

Defined as atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance, this term refers to the least abnormal grade. Many pathologists will grade these as normal while others will grade them as abnormal. A Digene Hybrid Capture Test is particularly helpful in this situation. An ASCUS pap smear may require a colposcopy to check for cervical cancer.
